Who we are

Adams Horse and Pet Supplies is a woman-owned business, run by a staff of equestrians and pet lovers who want nothing more than to bring high quality products to our customers here and across the US and Canada.  We don’t have stockholders, investors or a board of directors, just a small group of hardworking people dedicated to bringing only the best quality products to market.  We test and use everything we sell so we can educate our customers and help them choose the products that are right for them and their pets. Our staff is filled with a diverse group of Equestrians, ranging from upper level riders to those just getting started. Whether you're looking for stuff to help you get started at a lesson program, or buying things for your most prized upper level horse, you can trust we have your best interest at heart. We pride ourselves on helping customers get the best product, and best deal, for them and their horses.  When you call us we’ll answer, and not from a call center.  We are right here in our retail store where we can compare products, take measurements and answer any questions you may have.  We are a small town business with small town values and we can’t wait to make you part of our family!

How we started

Merance Adams became interested in Holistic Pet Foods in the mid 90’s after losing several young pets to cancer. After researching pet food companies and common ingredients, she realized that many commercial diets were low in nutrition, high in chemicals, and were actually harming our pets.  She wanted to increase the public’s knowledge of pet nutrition and offer healthier alternatives to make it easy for pet owners to properly care for their pets.  In 1998 while living in Florida where her husband, Jim, was stationed with the Navy, she started Adams Pet Supplies as an online holistic pet food retailer.  The online store was a success, proving the need for a convenient source of high quality pet products.  There were even a few well-known celebrities ordering!  In 2000 the Adams moved to Maine and while Merance loved the natural beauty and small, remote towns, she found that there were very few places to buy quality equipment and supplies for her horses. Merance had been an avid equestrian her whole life - fox hunting as a child, saddle training young Thoroughbreds at a breeding farm in her late teens and early 20's, and then doing low level eventing and dressage as an adult. The local tack shops were small and catered to the western riders. She ordered products from a big name tack shop and was disappointed in the service. She decided she could do better and started offering horse supplies on the Adams website. The response was fantastic.  In a few short years, Adams moved from the basement of her home, outgrew two more retail spaces and most recently made the move into a large retail and warehouse in Aiken, SC! Through all of the growth and change, Adams has remained a privately owned, woman run business employing an all-local staff of dedicated, passionate animal lovers who show up every day to serve our awesome customers! Although we hope to continue growing daily, we strive to remain the small town friendly names and faces of Adam's that you've always known.

Our Staff

rose500

Rosalie Crocker - Operations Manager

Rose has been with Adams since the opening of the very first retail store in 2003 when she was only 17 years old.  She has grown with the company and now works remotely from Maine after the store's move.  Rose handles website orders, customer service, vendor ordering and so much more. Although Rose is not a rider, with her nearly 20 years working in the Equine Retail industry she has gained a vast knowledge of products. She works hard to be in the know and provide customers with up to date information and product details. She also works closely with our vendors to know when products are coming in and how to provide our customers with speedy service. In her personal time (which is limited), Rose enjoys camping with her husband, Rob, and her children, Owen and Abby.  Her children are also involved in Hockey, Baseball, Karate and Dance, so the family spends plenty of time running from place to place.  Of course, the entire family loves animals and at home they have 3 dogs, 14 chickens, a bunny, a guinea pig and a pet turtle.   Rose is essential to the daily running of Adams and works extremely hard to provide the best possible customer experience.

Keyanna Farken - eCommerce Manager

Keyanna started with Adams at the ripe age of 17 after moving down to Aiken from Maine. She started working on Merance's farm and quickly picked up on the computer work for the business, and transitioned from farm to desk. She has worked for the company for several years remotely doing website and product work. After Adam's moved to Aiken Keyanna joined back full time as our eCommerce Manager. She is in charge of many different things involving our online sales, maintaining the website and products, returns & exchanges, social media and is the go to in-house person for system related tasks. Keyanna has had a deep love for horses since a young age, taking lessons and working in the barn since she was 5 years old. She quickly became a "barn rat" and spent most evenings and weekends working off lessons and riding anything that anyone would give her. Keyanna is now heavily involved in the local eventing community, competing all over Area II and III and sometimes beyond. She has run successfully through the Preliminary level with hopes of being an Intermediate/3* rider in the future. In her off time she enjoys cooking, working out and spending time with her 2 dogs Paisley and Lyla, who you will often see as the door greaters in store!

Robert is working towards his goals of eventually becoming a Veternarian. Although Robert does not ride, he works hard at gaining Equine knowledge and has quickly learned the products and will suprise you just how much he knows already. Robert lives in Augusta with his 2 dogs, and in his free time enjoys spending time outdoors. Outside of work, he can be found fishing, hiking, golfing or working out. Annabelle Lee - Product Advisor

Annabelle moved to Aiken a little over 2 years ago and re-joined the horse community. She works in the front of the store helping customers, organizing, and being a front of the store face. She helps with daily order picking and product tagging and her attention to detail is a huge asset in the large warehouse setting. Annabelle rode when she was younger but took a break to persue her career in a big city. As soon as she was back in Aiken the love for horses flourished again! She lives on a farm in town with her family. She is the 'mother' to 2 horses and 6 cats. Her horse's are both Shire's, a rare breed that was once endangered and is still considered sparse and very desired! Annabelle and Drago, her 1st Shire, enjoy bonding over unique and fun things such as mounted archery, walking in parades and are members of the Aiken Hounds Fox Hunt where they go out 3rd flight. Her other Shire, Loki, is her eventing partner. They compete together at local events at the Beginner Novice level. They are working hard to learn the sport together, and strengthen their bond by doing liberty ground work as well. Annabelle is a woman of many talents and boasts a large personality and comedic talent that keeps the store employees and customers laughing!

tims_about_me

Tim Zimicki - Store Manager

Tim’s love for horses started early as he grew up on his grandfather’s boarding barn. Horses and riding was a family pastime, but a spark and passion for driving started when he got his first mini driving pony at the age of 8. Driving was the perfect combination of his mother’s horsey interests and his dads mechanic skills. He started focusing on driving and continued on to show both singles and pairs pleasure driving while attending college.  After graduating, he spend 2 years with Frolic Weymouth and another 5 years with Tucker Johnson. In the summer of 2022 he took the leap and moved to Aiken to be closer to his grandfather and pursue his driving goals. Tim has started to compete in combined driving, which us cross country crazy eventers think is so cool! He is competing his mare Georgie and works for us full time at the store.
