Three ring bits allow for the bit to have a mild curb action and acts primarily on the corners of the mouth. The cheekpiece attaches to the small top ring while the rein can be connected to the large main ring to be used as a hanging cheek snaffle or to the small bottom ring allowing it to be used with more gag action. This bit can also be used with two reins allowing the rider to use the large ring for most work and the small bottom ring only when necessary. The KK Ultra Universal is a bit milder than the Vienna and due to the offset top ring. This bit can be useful for lifting the head or making quick adjustments and is popular among jumpers and eventers.
The Sprenger KK Ultra Universal bit has a mouthpiece made of aurigan which is an alloy created specifically for use in horse bits.
The Sensogan metal is an improvement on Sprenger's patented Aurigan metal. Sensogan has a reduced copper content as well as added manganese which helps to regulate the oxidation of the bit metal making the taste even more pleasant for the horse. The reduction of copper discharge into the horse's saliva also helps to keep the white gold color of the sensogan bit brilliant for a longer time.
