Korsteel Medium Weight Eggbutt Full Cheek Snaffle bit is a basic single jointed snaffle with full cheeks to keep the bit in a stable position in the horse's mouth. Single jointed mouthpieces apply pressure to the sides of the tongue, bars and lips. When pressure is applied to the bit, it tightens in the horse's mouth, applying greater pressure to the bars and lips and causing the center joint to collapse and raise, sometimes hitting the roof of the mouth. Full Cheeks aid in turning the horse and teaching young horses to give to rein pressure. When used with bit keepers, they also help to keep the bit stable and in the proper position in the horse's mouth and may also provide some poll pressure. Full cheek snaffles may be used without bit keepers, but keepers are highly recommended as they can help to prevent the cheeks from getting caught in the horse's nostril or on girths, fences or stirrups should the horse scratch or bite at a fly.
