The Rambo Micklem Competition Bridle is an innovative bridle made to fit the shape of the horse's skull. Designed by William Micklem, an international coach, speaker, and best selling author, the Micklem Bridle was the winner of the Innovation Award at BETA International in 2008. This is the most comfortable, effective and flexible bridle ever designed.

  • Anatomically designed to fit the horse's skull for greater comfort
  • Improved fit means less resistance and better performance
  • No lunging D-Ring on the noseband
  • 5/8" Eco-friendly hand finished leather
  • Complete with rubber reins
  • Stainless steel buckles
  • Comfortable padding across nose, brow band and on cheek pieces

Measuring instructions for the Micklem Bridle:Measure the distance from the bottom point of the protruding cheek bone on one side of the head to the bottom point of the protruding cheek bone on the other side of the head, going round the front of the head.

  • Under 27 cm (10.6 inches) = Pony
  • 27 - 29 cm (10.6 to 11.4 inches) = Small Horse
  • 29 - 31 cm (11.4 to 12.2 inches) = Standard Horse
  • 31 - 33 cm (12.2 inches to 13 inches) = Large Horse

You can use a bridle that is slightly too big from cheek bone to cheek bone but not a bridle that is slightly too small.

My OTTB Loves This BridleReview by NasusGaj

I have one of these from a couple of years ago in black. I decided I'd rather have brown. The original black one was a bit big and stiff. I ordered the Cob for my OTTB and it fit perfectly! The real plus is that it is so soft, hardly any break in required which is big improvement over my original one. My guy has some old track injuries on his head and this bridle avoids all of them. It's the only bridle I will use on him and the free bridle bag was a nice extra! (Posted on 3/11/2016)
The Perfect Bridle Review by Michelle

I LOVE this bridle!! I've used it for about 4 months and it has been worth every penny. My horse is smoother all around, collects much easier, and doesn't fight me anymore. He needs a flash because even though he's comfortable, the little turd is lazy and gapes his mouth, he no longer does that in this bridle. The padded monocrown, simplicity, suppleness, and streamline look are my favorite features. Cleaning it is a breeze and looks beautiful. The leather was soft when I got it, perhaps it was newly made compared to some of the other reviewers who said theirs was stiff. It does run true to size, in my opinion. My horse is a cob but I got the standard horse size in case the next horse I buy is bigger, and he's on the smallest settings with no problems in fit. I love that it comes with the Pony and Standard horse bit attachments! Overall, I would never buy another bridle. The price is well worth it. (Posted on 10/17/2015)
Great conceptReview by Lee from Florida

Both of my horses were more comfortable in this bridle. One of my horses constantly was straining against the figure 8, almost purposely trying to stretch it out. He does not do that in this bridle. His mouth is quiet and he's less tense.

I got the cob size and I feel it runs a little small; so keep that in mind.

A great bridle for a sensitive horseReview by Ingrid from Minnesota

I bought this bridle for my TB cross, a sensitive skinned chestnut mare, thinking she might be more comfortable in it. I didn't notice a huge difference but she did seem to like the bridle. It is made of fairly supple leather and I like the large padded monocrown, too. The sizing is a little tricky - the average horse size is a little big for my mare's smallish head but the cheek strap isn't large enough for my other mare (a Friesian cross) who also normally wears average horse size bridles & halters.

Great Bridle for the sensitive horseReview by Emily from Seattle

My sensitive TB mare definitely likes this bridle better. She is not as stiff as in a flash bridle. I love that it does not hit any of the sensitive nerves of the equine face. I think it is a great choice for the training of an OTTB. This bridle seems to run a little small. My mare usually wears a cob size, but the cheek strap was not long enough. The horse size is a little bit big. This bridle is made in India, so it was not the quality I expected from a Rambo product. With a little oil and elbow grease it does soften up.

My Horse Approves of Micklem ! Review by Kearsarge Meadows

As someone who applies the concepts of natural horsemanship to achieve happy success in dressage, I just had to try the Micklem competition bridle. The design aims to provide as much comfort as possible in a bitted bridle. I really like the concept.

I borrowed one from a friend and tried it on one of my Dutch WB's, a sometimes grumpy mare. Within minutes, I could tell she approved as she worked quite happily in it. In fact, she seemed more relaxed than usual.

Following the very useful sizing guide at http://www.adamshorsesupplies.com/micklem_bridle_fitting_guide I'm now going to measure another of our horses for his own Micklem as well.

Dare to be DifferentReview by Carolyn from Hillsborough

My longish-faced 15.2hh friesian fit the Large Horse sized bridle really nicely with extra holes for adjustments. It was easy to assembly and adjust. He is light in this bridle and it has solved the problem of curling and leaning. I'm happy; he's happy! The bridle's leather is robust, nicely crafted and it looks nice on my horse. I know that when it comes time to clean it, I will really appreciate how easy that will be with so few pieces. Two negatives: Initially the leather is stiff and hard to work with, but has soften. I did not apply oil. The reins are not usable for me. They are thick, wide, rough rubber reins that will not easily slide though your fingers. As a dressage rider, I want that option.

Never Going BackReview by Jenifer from Indiana

My gelding likes to lean on my hands, and when I first got this bridle he spent the first 15 minutes of every ride trying to figure out how to lean on me. Now that he's used to it, he's a lot lighter in the bridle and doesn't lean as much. It also flatters his narrow, tapered head better than a normal bridle. I really like the philosophy behind the bridle, and feel like more horse tack should be based on science rather than tradition. As one reviewer said already, dare to be different, this bridle is worth it!

Will not own another bridle..Review by Kate from Michigan

I own four of these bridles; one for each of our three personal horses and one for the sale horse that may be in the barn. I usually end up selling the bridle along with the horse. The fit and finish are excellent quality for an inexpensive bridle. The rubber reins are an added bonus. I have never used the plastic clips that come along with the bridle so I have no opinion there. Sizing is easy to figure out with the charts that are provided. I have never had a problem with sizes and have purchased each size. They have easily fit the horse they were purchased for. Every horse has gone better in a Micklem than their standard bridle, although some will be more immediate and clearer than others. I won't purchase another bridle any longer.

I believe the benefit of this bridle is the fit and comfort for your horse! My horse seems to love it and is working great in it. However, I found the leather quite stiff and hard. I'm hoping with use it will loosen up a bit. (Posted on 8/20/2015)
